Biography

From History of Iowa County, 1881 re: Fred Phillips: Hugh Phillips (deceased) was born Nov. 30, 1812, in Illogan, Cornwall, England. He was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Donathorn, of Redruth, same county, in 1839. In 1841, he came to America, and in 1842 to this county. His wife died of cholera in August, 1850, leaving a family of five children, only two of whom are now living, viz., Mary E. (wife of Capt. John P. Moore, of Fort Worth, Tex.), and Edith E. (wife of Mr. Robert Burns, of New York).
