Looking at Photographs

The Mineral Point Library Archives has an extensive collection of photographs, slides and negatives.  The current estimate stands at over 10,000.  The images are of people, events, businesses and homes.  The photographs date from the early 1860's up through to the present.

Our goal is to digitize all of the images. To date the Archives has a database that includes over 9,000 photographs scanned and identified.  The Archives tracks as much information about each image as possible.  At the moment this database is only accessible in the Archives.

Once you find one or more images, high quality copies of photographs can be made in the Archives. There is a charge to cover the cost of reproduction.  Please leave 48 hours for this service.  The current costs are:

  • 5” x 7” $10 each
  • 8” x 10” $13 each
  • 11” x 14” $15 each

An Archives staff person will be happy to help you search the database.  Please call 608-987-2447 for an appointment.  Or email the Archives with your request.

Until we are able to put our photographs online, a large sample can be seen using the links below. The Archives donated the use of some of our most interesting images.  We hope you enjoy them and, better still, find one that adds to your research.
